How to Remove Water Stains from Wooden Furniture
The right way to remove a water stain from wooden furniture depends on the color of the mark and the type of finish underneath it. White or cloudy marks mean moisture is trapped inside the finish layer and can usually be drawn out with gentle heat or an oil based paste. Dark or black marks mean water has reached the wood fibers themselves, often reacting with natural tannins in the wood, and usually need oxalic acid bleach or light sanding rather than a surface fix.
